Diabetic foot disease is among the most serious complications of diabetes mellitus. It represents a source of enormous suffering and major financial costs not only for the patient, but also for his family, healthcare professionals, healthcare facilities and society at large. To reduce the burden of this disease, multidisciplinary strategies must be implemented that include elements of prevention, patient and staff education, multidisciplinary local treatment and close clinical monitoring.
