The first nurse researcher


Virginia Henderson is the mother of nursing research and of the theorization of some of the fundamental concepts of nursing. Her insights changed not only the way millions of professionals worked, but also the scientific community’s perception of nursing. From 1959 to 1971, during his tenure at Yale University, he coordinated the Nursing Studies Index (NSI) project, organizing the biographical, registry, and historical nursing literature from 1900 to 1959 into four volumes.
